Four separate government payments are landing in 905 bank accounts this month. If you're eligible, here's exactly when the money arrives, how much you could get, and what you need to do to make sure you're not missing any.
📅 APRIL 2 — GST/HST Credit
The quarterly tax-free payment to offset the sales tax you pay on everything.
How much:
Single: up to $533/year ($133 this quarter)
Married/common-law: up to $698/year ($174 this quarter)
Per child under 19: up to $183/year ($46 this quarter)
Family of 4 example: ~$220 deposited April 2.
Big news for this year: The federal government announced a one-time 50% top-up on the GST credit. This extra payment is coming separately — as early as this spring, no later than June 2026. You don't need to apply. It's automatic if you filed your taxes.
Starting July 2026, the GST credit is being rebranded as the Canada Groceries & Essentials Benefit with a permanent 25% increase for five years.
✅ To qualify: File your 2025 tax return. That's it. Payment is automatic.
📅 APRIL 10 — Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB)
The monthly provincial credit that combines three programs: Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, Ontario Sales Tax Credit, and Northern Ontario Energy Credit.
How much:
Ages 18-64: up to $1,283/year ($107/month)
Ages 65+: up to $1,461/year ($122/month)
Ontario Sales Tax Credit: up to $371/person
Per spouse/dependent child: additional $371 each
Single renter in Pickering, $35K income: ~$80-110 deposited April 10.
✅ To qualify: File your 2024 tax return AND complete Form ON-BEN. If you rent, check the box that says you paid rent and enter your annual rent total. That's the step most people miss.

📅 APRIL 16 — Canada Disability Benefit (NEW)
Brand new federal benefit that started in 2025. This is the first full year of payments.
How much:
Up to $200/month for eligible adults with disabilities
Tax-free
Payments arrive the third Thursday of each month
Who qualifies:
Ages 18-64
Eligible for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
Income below the threshold
Important: You have to apply. This is NOT automatic. Back payments can cover up to 24 months from when you apply, but not before June 2025.
✅ To apply: Visit canada.ca/disability-benefit or call 1-866-588-1418.
📅 APRIL 20 — Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
The big one for parents. Tax-free monthly payment for families with kids under 18.
How much (2025-2026 benefit year):
Per child under 6: up to $7,997/year ($666/month)
Per child 6-17: up to $6,748/year ($562/month)
Family with 2 kids (ages 4 and 8), household income $55K: approximately $900-1,100 deposited April 20.
The CCB is income-tested — the amount decreases as household income rises above ~$36,502. But even families earning $90-100K still receive partial payments.
Coming July 2026: CCB amounts increase again with annual indexation. Watch for updated numbers.
✅ To qualify: File your taxes. Both parents/guardians must file, even with zero income. Payment is automatic.
💰 ADD IT ALL UP
Here's what a typical 905 family might see hit their account in April alone:
Payment | Date | Estimated Amount |
|---|---|---|
GST/HST Credit | April 2 | ~$220 |
Ontario Trillium Benefit | April 10 | ~$100 |
Canada Disability Benefit | April 16 | ~$200 (if eligible) |
Canada Child Benefit | April 20 | ~$1,000 |
Total | ~$1,320 - $1,520 |
Estimates based on a family of 4, household income ~$55K, renting in Durham Region. Your numbers will vary.
⚠️ NOT GETTING THESE PAYMENTS? HERE'S WHY.
Reason #1: You didn't file your taxes.
This is by far the most common reason. No tax return = CRA doesn't know you exist = no payments. File even if you earned $0.
Reason #2: You filed but skipped Form ON-BEN.
The Trillium Benefit requires this Ontario-specific form. If your tax software prompted you and you clicked "skip" — you left $1,200+ on the table. You can file an adjustment.
Reason #3: Your direct deposit info is outdated.
Log into My CRA Account and check your banking info. If you've changed banks, the payment goes nowhere.
Reason #4: You have a balance owing.
CRA will hold back benefit payments to cover outstanding tax debt. Call them to set up a payment arrangement and get your benefits flowing again.

File your 2025 taxes if you haven't yet. Deadline is April 30. Free options: Wealthsimple Tax, TurboTax Free, or your local library tax clinic.
Check My CRA Account — verify your direct deposit, marital status, and number of children are correct. Wrong info = wrong payment amounts.
Share this with someone who might not know about these payments. Seriously — 40% of eligible families miss the Canada Learning Bond. Benefits only work if people claim them.
